Shenzhen Marriott Hotel Golden Bay: A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

CCD - Cheng Chung Design Creates a Unique Vacation-Style Marriott Hotel

CCD - Cheng Chung Design drew inspiration from local characteristics to create a design that is both steady and reserved, reflecting traditional Chinese aesthetics, while also being lively and modern. This unique combination of elements has made the hotel a clear attraction in Golden Bay. The design team aimed to bring a sense of "looking at the mountain but not at the mountain; looking at the water but not at the water" into the space of the holiday hotel.

The hotel's unique properties have brought fame and popularity to CCD - Cheng Chung Design, following their previously acclaimed work on the Shenzhen Marriott Hotel Nanshan. The Shenzhen Marriott Hotel Golden Bay is not only a continuation of Marriott's modern look in the new era, but it is also the first vacation-style Marriott hotel in Shenzhen and the first international brand hotel in Shenzhen's largest waterfront holiday travel area.

In terms of design realization technology, the hotel lobby features warm-feeling original woodcut slices instead of cold stone material, bringing a sense of closeness to guests. This approach also cleverly provides private partitions, allowing guests to feel esteemed upon entering the hotel. The special type of folding fans sitting in front will definitely attract the guests’ attention, reducing boredom during check-ins and check-outs.

CCD - Cheng Chung Design faced several design challenges during the project. They aimed to create an indoor environment that felt simple but high quality, comfortable yet luxurious. The traditional exercise space now features furniture with a touch of humanities in its details, as well as small artworks such as fine bookshelves, round-looking art pieces, the metallic-webbed old-style folding fans, and interesting rippled ceilings.

The project, which was completed in July 2017 in Shenzhen, Golden Bay, has been awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
